Guidelines for Minisymposia, Contributed Talks and Posters Submissions

The Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing (PASC) is inviting submissions for minisymposia, contributed talks and/or posters to be presented at its next conference (PASC16) cosponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The Conference will be held from June 8 to 10, 2016 at the SwissTech Convention Center, located on the campus of EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Researchers from academia and industry are encouraged to participate and present their research in the following scientific fields:

    • Climate and Weather
    • Computer Science and Mathematics
    • Emerging Domains (Special Topic: HPC and Big Data)
    • Engineering
    • Life Sciences
    • Materials
    • Physics
    • Solid Earth

The PASC16 online submissions portal is now open.

We look forward to receiving your applications!

Please note that if you application has been accepted, you are expected to register for the conference and are subject to the corresponding registration fee.

Please find below the guidelines for abstract submission:

    Minisymposia

A minisymposium is a two-hour session comprising of short presentations designed to bring a range of different perspectives and views to a topic. Each individual talk will be either 15 (10+5) min or 30 (25+5) min. The organizer(s) of a minisymposium can propose a two-hour session of:

    • four talks (two 30 min and two 15 min) that will be completed with the addition of two 15-minute talks from applications submitted as Contributed Talks; or
    • five talks (one 30 min and four 15 min) that will be completed with the addition of two 15-minute talks from applications submitted as Contributed Talks

Minisymposium organizer(s) should provide the topic and a short overview of the minisymposium, along with a list of speakers who will present at the session, with the title and length of each presentation. If the proposal is accepted, the organizer(s) should officially invite the speakers and request written abstracts for their presentations. Please note that two of the 15-minute talks in a minisymposium will be assigned by the PASC16 Program Committee from applications submitted as Contributed Talks. Minisymposium organizers also have the possibility to fill-in the two-hour session with presenters of their choice keeping in mind that the total duration of the session cannot exceed 120 minutes.

The organizer(s) will chair the minisymposium: introduce the theme of their minisymposium and the speakers, ensure that speakers keep to time, and facilitate discussion between speakers and the audience. The organizer(s) may also contribute talks.

The proposal should include the following information:

Title: Describe the subject of your minisymposium as accurately and specifically as possible in no more than 20 words.

Organizer(s): Provide your full name, title, affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.

Summary: Describe your minisymposium in no more than 500 words. The summary should be written to attract those who work directly in your field and in related areas. The summary will:

    • Outline the scope of your minisymposium, describing the problem being addressed and its importance
    • Discuss current directions and methods being developed to solve problems, including their advantages and shortcomings

List of presenters, titles and abstracts of the talks: Provide the full name, affiliation, and address of each speaker, along with the title of his/her presentation. If the minisymposium proposal is accepted, the speakers will then be asked to provide the abstracts of their presentations.

    Schedule:

    • By January 12 January 24, 2016: Provide organizer(s) data, title and summary of the minisymposium, as well as full name, affiliation, address of each speaker and the title of his/her presentation
    • By February 8, 2016: First review notification
    • By March 2, 2016: Abstracts for all presentations should be submitted after notification of acceptance of the minisymposium
    • By April 11, 2016: Final review notification

    • By April 11, 2016: Review notification

    Posters

Posters will have a space of 118 cm tall by 78 cm wide on the poster board of the venue. The posters will be introduced briefly during a flash session, and then displayed in a two-hour poster session on the second day of the conference.
